Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Senior Payroll Specialist to take full ownership of complex, multi-jurisdictional payroll operations. This temporary role is critical in managing end-to-end payroll for both U.S. and Canada employees, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and timely processing. The ideal candidate brings extensive hands‑on experience, discretion with sensitive data, and the ability to support teams across various regions.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and execute full‑cycle payroll for U.S. multi‑state and international (Canada) employees on a bi‑weekly/semi‑monthly schedule.
  • Audit payroll inputs (hours worked, bonuses, deductions, time‑off, etc.) for accuracy and policy compliance.
  • Ensure payroll processing adheres to federal, state, provincial, and international tax laws and labor regulations.
  • Prepare and submit payroll tax filings and year‑end reports (e.g., W‑2s, T4s, ROEs).
  • Resolve complex payroll issues and respond to employee inquiries across regions in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain and safeguard payroll records in compliance with company and regulatory retention policies.
  • Support audits by preparing detailed reports and documentation for internal, external, and tax authorities.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with HR and Finance to support benefits, compensation, and accounting integrations.
  • Identify and implement process improvements and system enhancements to optimize payroll efficiency and compliance.
  • Lead and support Dayforce payroll processes and administration during company‑wide platform implementation.
  • Stay informed on evolving payroll legislation in the U.S. and internationally.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Work experience will be prioritized but a Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, or related field is appreciated.
  • 10+ years of hands‑on payroll experience, ideally including multi‑state and international payroll processing.
  • Proficiency in payroll platforms such as Dayforce (required) and similar.
  • Very strong proficiency in Excel is mandatory with advanced abilities leveraged weekly.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. and international payroll compliance, tax regulations, and audit requirements.
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to manage payroll independently.
  • An inherent curiosity about processes, problem solving, and gathering the required information to execute on both.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification preferred but as‑mentioned, work experience will be prioritized.
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Experience working with HRIS or ERP systems (e.g., Dayforce, SAP, Oracle).
  • Knowledge of Canadian ROEs, payroll practices, or other global jurisdictions.
  • Background in payroll system implementation or process improvement projects is a plus.
