Systems Administrator, IT Support
The College of Science is seeking an Information Technology Specialist to join a high‑performing team of IT professionals dedicated to serving the needs of faculty, staff and students. This position will serve the College of Science on a broad range of IT support needs and will be part of a dynamic team led by an Interim Director of IT.
This role will support the organization’s computer systems, software and networking environments, orchestrate provisioning, updating and monitoring of systems, troubleshoot and resolve application, hardware and communication problems, schedule upgrades, collaborate with users and team members on system optimizations, maintain operating efficiency and stability, and ensure security and integrity of all systems and data. The incumbent will promptly respond to outages and critical issues, coordinate with users and department leadership on roll‑outs of significant configuration changes or system updates, and develop and enhance processes while creating technical and user documentation.
Systems/ Network Administrators
Support the organization’s computer systems and network environment. Install, configure and support LAN and WAN networks. Maintain firewalls, switch stacks, switches, routers and network hardware. Ensure availability and optimal performance of the network and perform day‑to‑day maintenance and management of network devices. Perform application administration activities such as creating, modifying and deleting users, optimizing remote access and security access for messaging systems, databases and web applications.
Support, troubleshoot and provide resolution for application, hardware and communication problems. Schedule upgrades and collaborate with engineers on network/system optimization. Maintain operating efficiency and stability, ensure security and integrity of all systems and data, and respond to outages and other issues. Coordinate with department leadership to plan, design and schedule the release of all software, hardware or operating system updates.
Develop and enhance processes and technical documentation, create backup procedures, test plans and reports.
- Identify, troubleshoot, resolve and report system issues.
- Respond to user requests for system support and upgrades.
- Manage security solutions: EDR, antivirus, and data loss prevention systems.
- Perform scheduled software and systems updates.
- Manage and monitor backup systems.
- Provide user support for networking, applications, scientific equipment, printers and other peripherals.
- Provide analysis, design, planning and implementation for a variety of information technology tools and systems.
- Participate in projects to improve user and system efficiencies.
- Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a wide variety of tasks.
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).

Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience. - Systems / Network Administrator, III:
Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 6 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 4 years of directly related work experience. - Systems / Network Administrator, IV:
Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 8 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 6 years of directly related work experience. - Systems / Network Administrator, V:
Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 10 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 8 years of directly related work experience. - Systems / Network Administrator, VI:
Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 12 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 10 years of directly related work experience. - Systems / Network Administrator, VII:
Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 14 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 12 years of directly related work experience.

The department may choose to hire at any of the below job levels and associated pay rates based on their business need and budget.
Pay Rate Range: $45,000 - $55,000
