Position: IT Specialist (SYSADMIN)

Join OIT's Infrastructure Operations to support VA's digital transformation. Provide secure, reliable IT services-including compute, storage, database, cloud, and client management. As an IT Specialist (SYSADMIN), help protect and enhance VA's critical systems to better serve Veterans and families. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/04/2026.

Time-In-Grade Requirement:

Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-11 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-09. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service.

An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

Basic Requirements:

This position allows eligibility through meeting either the requirements specified in the section titled Education or the requirements specified in the section titled Experience.

EDUCATION:

Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

For the GS-11
, you must have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree;
or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. OR Experience - Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate.

You must submit relevant transcripts if qualifying based on education.

To qualify for this position, you must have information technology-related experience demonstrating all of the four competencies listed below. Ensure that this experience is clearly described in your resume:
