Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Business Analyst to support, enhance, and optimize the Laboratory Information Management System (Lab Ware LIMS v8) This role serves as the liaison between laboratory personnel and technical teams, ensuring laboratory workflows, testing processes, and reporting requirements are accurately translated into system functionality.

The Business Analyst will work closely with Section Chief Scientists, the LIMS Supervisor, laboratory staff, and IT teams to gather requirements, coordinate system enhancements, support integrations, and ensure the successful delivery of laboratory information systems supporting Infectious Disease, Toxicology, Environmental Chemistry, Bioterrorism Response, Chemical Threat Response, and Next Generation Sequencing laboratories.

This position requires strong analytical skills, excellent communication, and the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders while managing multiple priorities in a highly regulated laboratory environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support and maintain Lab Ware LIMS v8, including system configuration, enhancements, and troubleshooting.
  • Support and maintain API integrations between Lab Ware and external systems.
  • Provide architecture, development, testing, enhancement, and support for HL7 integrations.
  • Gather, analyze, document, and validate business and technical requirements.
  • Translate business requirements into functional specifications, user stories, and technical documentation.
  • Develop workflow diagrams, process documentation, and system specifications.
  • Coordinate system enhancements with laboratory leadership and technical teams.
  • Perform User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and develop test plans and test scripts.
  • Analyze system performance and recommend process improvements.
  • Support data integrity, laboratory informatics initiatives, and security requirements.
  • Troubleshoot application issues and recommend timely solutions.
  • Train laboratory staff on new functionality and system enhancements.
  • Collaborate with other LIMS analysts to prioritize enhancements and communicate project status.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience as a Business Analyst supporting enterprise software applications.
  • Experience gathering, documenting, and validating business requirements.
  • Experience creating functional specifications, user stories, and test scripts.
  • Experience performing User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
  • Strong SQL and relational database experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to translate technical concepts for business users.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • Experience creating workflow diagrams and process documentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting Lab Ware LIMS v8.
  • Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) experience.
  • Experience supporting laboratory informatics or public health laboratories.
  • Knowledge of laboratory workflows supporting:
    • Infectious Disease
    • Toxicology
    • Environmental Chemistry
    • Next Generation Sequencing
  • Experience with HL7 messaging and healthcare interoperability.
  • Knowledge of healthcare data standards including:
    • HL7
    • XML
    • CCDA
    • LOINC
    • SNOMED CT
    • ICD-10
  • Experience developing or supporting API integrations.
  • Experience writing SQL queries and working with large relational databases.
  • Experience with Crystal Reports.
  • Familiarity with CLIA, FDA, CDC, EPA, or other laboratory regulatory requirements.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Laboratory Science, Informatics, Epidemiology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
