Job SummaryThe Physical Security Specialist performs engineering, configuration, deployment, and troubleshooting of enterprise-grade physical security systems and integrated network infrastructure. The specialist drives system upgrades, complex integrations, acceptance testing, and deployment activities across critical operational environments. Responsibilities include developing technical documentation, optimizing system processes, and providing engineering-level design input for new project initiatives. Additionally, the position serves as an escalation point for diagnosing advanced technical issues to ensure system reliability, compliance with security standards, and alignment with university’s risk-management objectives.
This position may be filled at either the Physical Security Systems Specialist I or Physical Security Systems Specialist II level. Placement will be based on the candidate’s education, experience, certifications, demonstrated skills, and business needs or operational needs.
The Physical Security Specialist I Perform the configuration and maintenance of physical security system components under close supervision, focusing on developing foundational skills in access control, intrusion detection, device configuration, and basic troubleshooting. Assist with routine tasks such as badge creation, access updates, and system checks while following established procedures, documenting work, and escalating issues appropriately. Perform assigned work with a basic skill set and growing proficiency.

Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) with up to 2 years of directly related work experience or a master’s (or equivalency) degree. Assumes work equivalency (1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience).
Physical Security Systems Specialist, II
Perform configuration, commissioning, and troubleshooting of physical security system components under moderate supervision. Conduct preventive maintenance, perform system diagnostics, program and commission newly installed devices, and support field activities. Complete routine administrative tasks such as badge creation, access modifications, and system health checks. Demonstrate increasing independence, diagnose controller communication issues, assist with system updates, and support small scale system deployments and projects.
Requires the following certifications, SWH CCURE 9000 System Manager Certification and Level 1 AC9001 CCURE 9000 Installer Maintainer Certification.
Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience. Assumes work equivalency (1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience).
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT : 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).
