Counsel – Development (Energy Infrastructure)
Location: Hybrid – Salt Lake City, UT | Washington D.C. | Greater Los Angeles, CA
A leading energy infrastructure developer is seeking a Counsel – Development to support legal activities across a growing portfolio of large-scale energy and infrastructure projects in the United States.
This role will work closely with development, commercial, real estate, and executive teams to provide legal support throughout the project development lifecycle. The position focuses on the day-to-day legal needs that arise during early-stage development, including real estate agreements, permitting support, commercial contracts, and coordination with internal stakeholders and outside counsel.
The ideal candidate will bring experience supporting energy or infrastructure development projects and will be comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment with a high volume of development-related legal work.
Responsibilities- Provide legal support to development teams advancing large-scale energy and infrastructure projects
- Draft, review, and negotiate real estate agreements including land leases, site control agreements, and related development contracts
- Support permitting and regulatory processes associated with project development
- Draft and negotiate NDAs, MSAs, and other commercial agreements supporting development activities
- Assist with development-stage transactions and project-related agreements
- Provide day-to-day legal guidance to development teams managing multiple early-stage projects
- Coordinate with outside counsel on specialized legal matters when required
- Maintain organization and tracking of legal documentation across a portfolio of projects
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active bar membership
- Experience supporting infrastructure, energy, or real estate development projects
- Experience drafting and negotiating real estate and commercial agreements
- Familiarity with project development processes including permitting, site control, and regulatory considerations
- Prior in-house legal experience strongly preferred
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects and legal requests simultaneously
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with development and commercial teams
- Hybrid work environment depending on office location
