The Director of Operations is responsible for overseeing the general operations of the Firm’s day-to-day operations, including overall responsibility for the Firm’s non-legal personnel, physical facilities, marketing, insurance and administrative matters.

While this position will not be responsible for the Firm’s accounting team (which is overseen by the Director of Finance), this position requires strong financial skills including participation in creating and managing budgets, operational and financial analysis and familiarity with benefit rules and processes.

This role requires strong leadership, management and interpersonal skills.

The ideal candidate will have experience in law firm management (or general management experience at a similar organization) and proficiency with Word and Excel.

Key Responsibilities Management of Non-Legal Personnel & Direct Reports
  • Oversee all aspects of daily operations, including supervision of several direct reports including office manager, business development and calendaring.
  • For areas of responsibility, coordinate with committees and accounting group with respect to monthly and annual results with respect to the Firm’s budget.

    Participate in the development of annual budget.
  • Strong coordination and alignment with the Firm’s accounting team led by the Director of Finance.

    This position and the Director of Finance will interact to serve as checks and balances on each other on key work streams.
Support the Firm’s Committees
  • The Firm is governed by a number of committees made up of attorneys which make all strategic and budget decisions.

    This position will support these committees with leadership in following up on and executing these committees’ decisions.
  • Identify and implement best practices and business developments in the law firm industry.
Insurance & Benefit Programs
  • Review and analyze insurance policies, including cyber security, E & O, EPLI, workers comp, health, dental, life, and business owners.

    Manage the annual renewal of these policies.
  • Orientation of new hires to the Firm’s benefit programs.

    Coordination with the Director of Finance with respect to the implementation of the Firm’s payroll, health insurance, HSA, profit sharing and retirement plans.
Leadership & Team Management
  • Supervise the non-legal personnel team (other than the accounting team) fostering a culture of teamwork and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with attorneys (which is always enjoyable).
Events & Activities
  • Execute and/or supervise key firm activities including the annual lawyer retreat, client appreciation events (e.g. annual golf tournament) and business development events.
  • Support the firm’s summer associate program including coordination of arrival and departure dates and summer activities.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Minimum 7 years’ management experience within a law firm or general management experience with a similar organization.
  • Experience with budgeting, financial analysis, and strategic planning.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Exhibits professional demeanor and possesses a high level of interpersonal skills to handle time-sensitive, confidential and stressful situations.

    Works calmly under pressure.
  • Regular and reliable in-person attendance.
