Job Description
Our manufacturing client in Salt Lake City is looking to hire an experienced Maintenance Controls Technician to support a large, modern manufacturing operation.
This role is the technical escalation point for PLCs, electrical systems, automation, and advanced diagnostics. It is not a mechanical-only maintenance role.
You will work alongside an established maintenance team, diagnosing complex system failures, restoring uptime, and helping improve long-term equipment reliability.
Key Responsibilities- Troubleshoot PLC-controlled production equipment
- Go online with PLCs to diagnose faults, monitor logic, and trace I/O
- Diagnose and resolve issues involving:
- PLC logic, safety circuits, and interlocks
- Sensors (photo eyes, prox switches, encoders)
- VFDs, servos, motor starters, and actuators
- Read and interpret:
- Electrical schematics
- Ladder logic
- HMI alarms and fault messages
- Troubleshoot cutting, welding, glazing, material handling, and automated assembly equipment
- Back up PLC and HMI programs and maintain basic documentation
- Support and mentor maintenance technicians on electrical and controls troubleshooting

- Ability to work onsite Mon-Fri 5:45 AM-2:15 PM
- Proven hands‑on experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled industrial equipment
- Ability to:
- Go online with a PLC
- Monitor live logic
- Trace inputs/outputs from field devices to logic and outputs
- Strong industrial electrical background (controls-focused)
- Experience using diagnostic tools (multimeter, laptop, PLC software)
- Manufacturing environment experience (automation‑heavy preferred)
- Allen‑Bradley PLCs, Lenze, Beckoff, Yaskawa drives
- HMI troubleshooting (Panel View or similar)
- VFD setup and fault diagnostics
- Industrial networking basics (Ethernet/IP, Device Net, Profinet)
- Experience with OEM window, extrusion, or high‑speed manufacturing equipment
- Ability and willingness to train and mentor others
