Social Media and Events Intern
Utah Transit Authority’s (UTA) Communications team seeks a full‑time intern to support social media management, digital content creation, and planning for a major UTA‑hosted event. The intern will help ensure consistent, engaging messaging aligned with broader communications initiatives while providing focused event support for one large, agency‑priority event.
DescriptionThe internship is 40 hours per week, with some evening and weekend availability around the event, and is expected to last approximately 4–6 months.
Essential Functions Social Media Support- Work alongside, support, and take direction from the Social Media Strategist.
- Assist in developing and implementing UTA’s social media strategy in alignment with agency communications goals.
- Create, schedule, monitor, and manage content across UTA social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and the UTA blog.
- Respond to public inquiries and comments on social media in a timely, professional manner.
- Develop social media messaging to support agency projects, initiatives, and event promotion.
- Monitor social media trends, issues, and emerging platforms and share insights with the Communications team.
- Work alongside, support, and take direction from the event lead, Marketing Events & Sponsor ships Coordinator.
- Provide communications and logistical support for one large, UTA‑hosted event.
- Assist with event planning tasks such as timelines, content coordination, and internal communication support.
- Support preparation of event materials, signage, and digital content.
- Assist with on‑site event setup and day‑of coordination.
- Support post‑event activities such as content recap, social media coverage, and internal documentation.
Currently enrolled junior or senior at an accredited college or university.
Minimum Qualifications- Seeking an undergraduate degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Experience using social media platforms and social media management software.
- Previous experience with public relations, marketing, or event support is a plus.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
- Reliable, detail‑oriented, and self‑directed.
- Intermediate proficiency in MS Outlook and Word preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Comfortable working in fast‑paced environments, including during live events.
- Works effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Evening and weekend availability may be required around the event.
- Valid driver’s license preferred but not required.
