Registered Nurse; Assistant Nurse Manager - Emergency Department

Position: Registered Nurse (Assistant Nurse Manager) - Emergency Department
In collaboration with the Nurse Manager, the Assistant Nurse Manager will function as a supervisor and assume accountability for the operational function of the unit. This includes managing staff scheduling, unit coverage, and support to the Nurse Manager and staff to achieve performance measures. The Assistant Nurse Manager is responsible for contributing to the establishment and implementation of evidence-based nursing standards of practice.

Major Duties:

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

* Represent the unit in the absence of the Nurse Manager

* Provide patient care as outlined by the staff nurse job description for the unit

* Act as direct supervisor for designated staff

* Contribute/assist with yearly performance evaluations

* Assist with payroll duties

* Assist Nurse Manager in the hiring/selection process for Registered Nurses, Medical Support Assistants, Health Technicians, and Nursing Assistants

* Assist Nurse Manager in collecting and preparing evidence for disciplinary actions for Registered Nurses, Medical Support Assistants, Health Technicians, and Nursing Assistants

* Proactive in identifying potential crisis and respond effectively in emergency/code situations in the unit/clinic

* Function as a consulting person to nursing and other personnel for unit/clinic practices and patient care issues

* Assist the Unit Education Coordinator

* Work with Nurse Manager or Clinic Manager in mentoring new staff and students in clinical and professional role development, acting as a role model

* Monitor unit/clinic staffing needs and maintain adequate levels

* Maintain a safe unit/clinic environment by routinely inspecting the area and requesting supportive services assistance as needed

* Maintain oversight of the environment of care activities to ensure appropriate standards and processes

* Communicate and/or mediate effectively with staff and support personnel to solve patient care and staff issues

* Assist the Nurse/Clinic Manager in monitoring unit/clinic for compliance with applicable performance measures and Joint Commission standards

* Act as a lead nurse within the unit:

* Responsible for change nurse training and mentoring

* Charge on the shifts/days worked in staffing when needed

* Assist the Nurse/Clinic Manager in departmental projects and initiatives

* Manage projects or programs as delegated by the Nurse Manager

* Assist the Nurse/Clinic Manager in oversight of clinically assigned performance measures

* Provide interpretation and rationale for hospital policies and procedures to staff, physicians, and others

* Audit charts for complete documentation as required for specific clinical settings (Inpatient or Outpatient)

* Other duties as assigned by the Nurse Manager

Pay:
