Job SummaryThe Division of Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Utah School of Medicine has an immediate opening for a Clinical Nurse. The Clinical Nurse will be responsible for providing nursing care to patients in the Pulmonary Team, including implementing clinical nursing interventions to modify symptoms, developing and implementing patient care plans to improve outcomes, providing and overseeing direct patient care, and will be involved in phone triage care.
The Clinical Nurse will be responsible for delivering professional nursing care to patients via phone, patient portal, and in the clinic. Utilizes strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status; implements clinical nursing interventions to modify symptoms; develops, implements and evaluates patient care plans to enhance and improve outcomes and ensure a safe and therapeutic environment.

ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions
- A significant component of daily responsibility will include coordination of management with patients’ parents, chart review, care coordination, triage, and problem management.
- Assisting in the pediatric pulmonary and sleep disorders clinics coordinating care and providing patient education relevant to their pulmonary diagnoses.
- Provides and develops patient/family education materials surrounding common pulmonology disorders.
- Communicates pulmonary management and adjustments in treatment plan to families.
- Identifies, assesses, and diagnoses problems through patient assessment and interactions; evaluates actual or potential patient health problems.
- Assesses, plans, and implements interventions for solving patient care problems.
- Formulates care plans for specific patients and documents the nursing process in patient’s record.
- Evaluates patient response to interventions and modifies the plan of care as needed to achieve health care goals.
- Develops and participates in educating patients, their families or significant others about post-discharge care programs.
- Initiates patient care meetings with the health care team to revise the plan of care as the patient’s condition warrants.
