Clinical Nurse Specialist, Healthcare Nursing, RN Nurse, Charge Nurse
Direct clinical oversight for nursing/clinical staff under the direction of the Ambulatory Nurse Director. Responsible to provide clinical expertise and leadership to the delivery of nursing care.
The RN Coordinator II reports to the Ambulatory Nurse Director and plays a key role in clinical oversight. This position typically supervises a clinical staff of 45–50 employees and is included in strategic decisions specific to staffing models and oversight of staff performance.
Responsibilities- In collaboration with the clinic manager, project staffing needs for the current and following shift and/or department to provide optimal patient care.
- Ensure that staffing levels and skill levels match census and acuities for the unit; coordinate cost‑effective use of staff by ensuring appropriate staff‑to‑provider ratio.
- Under the direction of the Ambulatory Nurse Director, collaborate with the Clinic Manager to conduct annual performance reviews of staff; enforce policies, guidelines, and procedures.
- Provide initial and ongoing counseling of staff for performance issues; collaborate with the clinic manager for employee hiring, onboarding, and orientation.
- Oversee competency of clinical staff through annual skills updates, ongoing educational in‑services, and completion of mandatory educational requirements.
- Forecast and communicate accurate information on admission, discharge, and transfer to ensure appropriate patient placement.
- Responsible for triaging and investigating event reviews categories A–E.
- Responsible for clinic audits in a specified geographic area/clinic.
- Assist with MA 1 Course and Second Day Orientation.
- Communicate with appropriate caregivers on difficult or challenging patients to facilitate appropriate care needs; assist staff members with direct patient care as needed.
- Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives (e.g., CQI, TQM, Lean, 100% participation, etc.).
- Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice.
- Current Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for Healthcare Providers.
- Two years of clinical nursing experience.
- Clinical expertise in assigned clinical areas.
- Working knowledge of clinical processes in the ambulatory setting.
- Demonstrated communication skills in recommending quality, customer service, and safety improvement measures.
- Experience mentoring clinical staff.
- RNs hired or promoted into this role must obtain a BSN within three years of hire or promotion.
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
- Two years of experience supervising clinical staff.
- Ability to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
- Frequent interaction with patient care providers, patients, and visitors; quick and accurate verbal communication, especially during emergencies.
- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy, including frequent computer use and typing for documentation.
- Ability to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients; bend, lift, and carry supplies and equipment of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
- Ability to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment, including pushing and pulling gurneys and portable equipment.
- Capacity to stand in a stationary position for extended periods.
