Job Summary

The University of Utah Department of Emergency Medicine seeks an energetic, professional, skilled Nurse Practitioner to provide care in multiple emergency department locations. Candidates must have a minimum of two years of experience working in Emergency Medicine as a Nurse Practitioner. This position supports the University of Utah Hospital Emergency Department, South Jordan Health Center Emergency Department, and future community locations.

Key duties include routine physical examinations, ordering laboratory tests, x-rays, and special imaging studies, performing routine emergency department procedures, and consulting with emergency department physicians and other consultants.

Responsibilities
  • Assess the physical condition of patients through examinations and medical histories.
  • Formulate medical plans and prognoses based on patient conditions.
  • Consult with physicians regarding patient healthcare plans and treatment.
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient needs.
  • Perform selected invasive procedures within scope of validated competence.
  • Initiate and/or recommend medical drug therapies or other treatments in accordance with approved protocols and policy.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient care in compliance with medical records policies.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities.
  • Counsel patients, families, and significant others about health and illness, and promote health maintenance.
  • Evaluate, plan, implement, and re-evaluate care of individuals requiring emergency measures.
  • Apply problem‑solving skills to deliver effective patient care.

Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the job, clinical competence, leadership, teaching, research, and communication skills are required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Current licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification in ACLS, BLS, NRP, or ATLS as required by department or privileging criteria.
  • Utah state prescriptive privileges.
  • Master’s degree in Nursing or equivalent current NP licensure and national certification.
  • Completion of credentialing and privileging at the time of hire per UHPPM 1‑56.
Medical Requirements

This patient‑sensitive position requires completion of all required vaccination requirements, or approval for an exemption, before the first day of work, in accordance with CDC standards and hospital policy.

Additional Requirements

Successful completion of a criminal background check and/or drug screen may be required.
