Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and hardworking Seasonal Trails Technician to join our team for the upcoming season. This position plays a key role in maintaining and improving our trail system to ensure a safe, sustainable, and enjoyable experience for all users. The ideal candidate enjoys working outdoors in a physically demanding environment and takes pride in hands‑on, detail‑oriented work.
Responsibilities- Routine trail maintenance: repair of tread and drainage features, vegetation management, and general upkeep of trails and properties.
- Installation of signage, fencing, and trail amenities.
- Assist with small construction projects and light equipment operation and maintenance.
- Work independently and as part of a crew while following established safety procedures.
- Communicate regularly with coworkers and supervisors regarding progress and problems.
- Interface with the public, support volunteer stewardship activities, and engage with visitors.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Knowledge or strong desire to develop skills in plant identification, restoration, forestry, hydrology, or ecology.
- Practical outdoor work experience.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to safely drive large pickup trucks.
- Basic knowledge of natural resource management practices and procedures.
- Ability to operate hand tools and light equipment.
- Capability to work in adverse conditions (rain, extreme temperatures, insects, difficult terrain) for full days without regular amenities.
- Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and flexibility to handle unexpected changes.
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
- Bachelor’s degree in natural resources, natural sciences, or a related field.
- Six months or more of field experience in natural resource management or similar work.
- Experience with computer applications (word processing, spreadsheets, GIS, GPS, databases).
- Leadership and motivational skills for small groups.
- Excellent observation, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of invasive plant management.
- Primarily outdoors in various weather and environmental conditions; may involve hiking to job sites.
- Work locations include Salt Lake City’s Foothills Natural Area, Jordan River Parkway, City Creek, Red Butte Creek, Emigration Creek, Parleys Creek, and other city parks and greenways.
- Exposure to hazardous wildlife, off‑leash dogs, and potential interaction with unhoused populations.
- Moderately heavy physical activity required (pushing, pulling, carrying, and lifting medium to heavy weights; standing or crawling in uncomfortable positions).
Position Type:
Seasonal (Full time). 40 hours per week. Salary: $20/hr – $21/hr.
