Position Summary

The candidate for the internship position will support day-to-day duties of the Sr. Land Management Coordinator at Gillmor Sanctuary April 1st through June 30th, 2026. This is a 20 hour per week part-time position, typically occurring Wednesday through Friday of each week with occasional Saturdays.

Gillmor Sanctuary is a large tract of saline wetlands and uplands located on the south shore of Great Salt Lake, owned and managed by Audubon Rockies, a regional office of the National Audubon Society. It hosts numerous birds and other wildlife known to inhabit fringing areas of Great Salt Lake. Join us in managing this unique landscape to support its native flora and fauna and learn about the birds and what they need to survive.

The Gillmor Sanctuary Land Conservation Intern will assist the Sr. Land Management Coordinator with ongoing restoration activities including but not limited to: invasive weed control and mapping, bird and vegetation monitoring, data entry and report preparation, coordination of volunteer and outreach events. Ideal candidates for this position will have a keen interest in and knowledge of Great Salt Lake bird species, wetland and grassland restoration, and conservation efforts to support native flora and fauna at the sanctuary.

This position is specifically designed for the successful candidate to assist the Sr. Land Coordinator in all aspects of a large-scale wetland and grassland restoration project, and related monitoring of the sanctuary.

This role is on-site and based out of the Audubon office in Salt Lake City, UT.

Location: Onsite, Gillmor Sanctuary and the Audubon Office, Salt Lake City, Utah

Hours: 20

Compensation: $19.00 / hour

Intern Responsibilities and Learning Objectives

During the internship, you will work with Gillmor Sanctuary staff to: assist with restoration project tasks such as seeding, seed collection, planting, vegetation removal, earth work, irrigation; assist with mapping and photographing success of planted areas and extent of invasive vegetation in treated areas; assist with spot herbicide treatment of invasive plant outbreaks using sprayers, brushes, etc.; assist with mowing stands of phragmites using a brush-cutter;

assist with equipment and vehicle maintenance; assist in avian monitoring efforts within restoration project areas (water bird surveys, point counts, nest surveys, etc.); help with data management, data entry, and quality control; help communicate and coordinate with volunteers during events at the sanctuary.
