Job Summary
Immediate opening for a Research Technician in the Maria Bettini Lab in the Department of Pathology Division of Microbiology & Immunology. This position will manage day‑to‑day lab activities including ordering, stocking the lab, mouse colony management, and contributing to team projects. Research in the laboratory spans several fields, including immunology, metabolism, autoimmunity, molecular and cellular biology. The focus of research is on T cell function in chronic autoimmunity.
The Research Technician will assist with basic research experiments including molecular biology, cell biology and culture, mouse experiments and animal care. This position provides an opportunity to train in one or more cutting‑edge immunological approaches, including spectral high‑parameter flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, and vector‑mediated gene transfer. It is an ideal opportunity to gain research experience for a competitive graduate program application.
The successful candidate will be self‑motivated and have good record‑keeping and time‑management skills.

- Confers with the PI and senior laboratory personnel regarding procedures and techniques to be followed in conducting research and recommends modifications as needed.
- Performs specialized tests and procedures using complex equipment.
- Procures supplies and materials needed for laboratory research.
- Conducts literature reviews to obtain abstracts and information to be utilized in research.
- Makes statistical calculations, analyzes data and prepares reports summarizing results.
- May supervise the care of research animals; perform minor animal surgery or collect animal tissues and specimens for laboratory analysis.
Laboratory environment – nearly continuously. Mouse facility – often. Exposure to animals – often.
Physical RequirementsHearing, listening, talking – nearly continuously. Repetitive hand motion (such as typing, pipetting), walking, standing, sitting – often. Bending, reaching overhead – seldom.
Minimum QualificationsEQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: One year of higher education can be substituted for one year of directly related work experience.

Requires little to no related experience. - Research Technician, II:
Requires at least one year of related experience.
- Previous experience in one or more of the following: molecular biology (such as PCR), flow cytometry, immunology, mouse handling, small animal surgery.
