Basic Science Investigator in Pediatric Cancer

We are seeking a Basic Science or Translational Research Investigator in Pediatric Cancer to join the Division of Pediatric Hematology & Oncology at the University of Utah School of Medicine and Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI). The successful candidate will have a tenure‑track appointment in the Department of Pediatrics and a concurrent lab investigator appointment at HCI.

The Division and HCI have a strategic commitment to expanding Pediatric Cancer Areas of Excellence, with a focus on cell therapy, cancer genetics, epigenetics, tumor modeling, and experimental therapeutics. Candidates whose research interests align with these areas are strongly encouraged to apply. The role is housed in the newly built Primary Children’s and Families' Research Center at HCI.

• Develop an independent, laboratory‑based research program focused on basic and translational studies relevant to pediatric oncology.

• Supervise graduate and medical students, residents, clinical fellows, and postdoctoral research fellows.

• Engage in collaborative research across basic, translational, and population‑based studies of childhood cancers and outcomes.

• Contribute to grant writing, grant solicitation, and core facility utilization (e.g., genomics, metabolomics, proteomics, GMP‑certified cell therapy).

• Maintain a culture of excellence in patient care, research, teaching, and service.

• Hold an M.D., D.O., or Ph.D. with focused training in basic and/or translational science directly related to pediatric cancer.

• Demonstrated track record of innovative research and peer‑reviewed publications in cell therapy, cancer genetics, epigenetics, tumor modeling, and/or experimental therapeutics.

• Ability to attract sustained research funding, with an established history of extramural support considered for appointment at Associate Professor or Professor level.

• For those who wish to provide patient care, Board Eligible/Board Certified in Pediatric Hematology & Oncology is required.

• Tenure‑track appointment in the Department of Pediatrics at the level commensurate with experience and qualifications.
