Cardiovascular Biostatistics Faculty Investigator

The Cardiovascular Medicine Division in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Utah invites applications for a research faculty position. We seek candidates with strong research skills and experience required to successfully assume roles in multi‑disciplinary research teams, support and develop grant proposals, and provide guidance and mentorship to early‑career faculty, trainees, and students.

The successful candidate will collaborate with researchers in the Cardiovascular Medicine Division and will have opportunities to participate in both clinical and methodological research. Substantive interest and experience are desired in one or more of the following areas:

• methods for cardiology research
• modern causal inference
• clinical trial design
• secondary data analysis
• epidemiology
• survival analysis
• machine learning and high‑dimensional data analysis
• applications of multi‑level modeling to health data

This position is designed for deep cross‑disciplinary collaboration, allowing the candidate to work directly with colleagues in our renowned Epidemiology and Statistics programs. The candidate will lead the Cardiovascular Data Science team consisting of master’s‑level biostatisticians and clinician‑scientists, while collaborating with the University of Utah Study Design and Biostatistics Center (SDBC), providing a rich independent, yet collaborative research environment.

Support is available for candidates interested in independent methods of research and career progression for those applicants who wish to pursue external funding.

Primary academic appointments will be in the Department of Internal Medicine. Compensation will be based on academic rank, administrative, and educational experience.

• PhD in biostatistics or a related discipline
• Minimum five (5) years of research experience
• Demonstrated excellence in collaborative and methodological research
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

• Experience writing statistical sections for grant applications
• Prior experience in biomedical or cardiovascular research and analysis of large electronic health record and/or administrative data sets (desirable but not required)
