A Molecular R&D Scientist I at Bio Fire Defense is responsible for initiating, directing and executing scientific research and/or development strategies for Bio Fire Defense. A Scientist investigates the feasibility of applying a variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential products, processes, and innovations. Scientists are responsible for remaining familiar with molecular biology concepts, practices, and procedures including PCR, RT-PCR, real-time PCR, and the use of fluorescence-based nucleic acid detection techniques.
A Scientist I manages a team of Research Associates who assist in executing research and development efforts under the direction of a Scientist.
- Plans and executes laboratory research supporting the development of new products and supporting the maintenance and troubleshooting of existing products.
- Develops processes and procedures to aid in the development and maintenance of product lines.
- Maintains broad knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories.
- Uses professional concepts to contribute to the development of company concepts and principles and to achieve objectives in creative and effective ways.
- Requires interaction with various company departments.
- Demonstrates potential for technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others, and independent thought.
- Ensures that laboratory notebooks for assigned projects/experiments are maintained in accordance with Bio Fire Defense Employment Handbook.
- Performs all work in compliance with company policy and within the guidelines of Bio Fire Defense Quality System.
- May contribute to literature and conferences.
- May advise top management on corporate research and development.
- May participate in development of patent applications.

Qualifications Training and EducationMinimum education, certification, and/or training requirements for this position (i.e., high school diploma, college degree, and/or certification.)
A PhD in a scientific discipline is required for this position.Check the highest-level education recommended below (must be job-related). Identify the discipline, where applicable:
PhD in
Molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, or other scientific discipline
- 2-5 years of experience in a research and/or development environment.
- 9/8/80 work schedule (every other Friday off)
- 401k - company match of 5% regardless of participation and up to a total of 9.5% company match if contributing
- 160 Hours of PTO (prorated from date of hire)
- 9 Paid Holidays
- Paid Winter Break from the work week between December 24 thru December 31
