Lab Technician-Brown Lab Job Summary
The Brown lab at the University of Utah seeks a research technician to support projects related to fungal pathogenesis and biology. Weusing molecular, cellular, and genetic approaches to study the biology of pathogenic fungi. We are looking for a researchtechnician to support projects in the lab in this generalarea.
Perform laboratory tests, experiments, and analyses. Prepare andweigh samples for testing and analysis. Conduct tests, assays, andother protocols under the direction of a laboratory services manager, physician, nurse, or scientist. Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs). Ensure all laboratory equipment and work areas are clean, sterile, and inproper working order. May be responsible for calibration of instruments. Mid-level support role.
Completes routine tasks under moderate supervision.
Requires at least 1 year of related experience.

ResponsibilitiesSpecific duties:
Support projects on fungalbiology and pathogenesis by performing genetic manipulation offungal, PCR and DNA extraction, whole genome sequencing sample preparation and analysis, fungal culturing experiments, cellimaging, and pathogenesis experiments in tissue culture and animalmodels. Employee is expected to maintain an up-to-date lab notebook, participate in lab meetings, and present and discussfindings under guidance of mentors.
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience(Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).

- Laboratory Technician, I:
Requires little to norelated experience. - Laboratory Technician, II:
Requires at least 1year of related experience.
- Recent college graduate planning to apply to PhD programs
- Experience with molecular biology techniques (PCR, DNAanalysis, etc.), fungal culture and genetic manipulation
- Experience with systems models of pathogenesis
- Requires at least 1 year of related experience.
