The Scott Hale Lab in the Department of Pathology seeks a research technician to perform technical procedures in an immunology research laboratory under minimal supervision by applying standard scientific techniques and analytical principles. The employee will record observations and measurements, report results, be responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining clean rooms and equipment, and may assist with receipt and inspection of raw materials, ordering, and stocking of materials and equipment.

Exposure to animals, infectious disease, oils (there is air or skin exposure to oils or other cutting fluids), hazards (includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals).

Hearing, listening, talking.
Often:
Repetitive hand motion such as typing and pipetting, walking, standing, sitting.
Seldom:
Bending, reaching overhead.
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT : 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).
Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels: Research Technician, II:
Requires at least 1 year of related experience.
- The candidate should be able to learn and apply laboratory techniques and skills, and will perform experiments under the supervision and training of senior lab personnel.
- Experience and/or understanding of flow cytometry, RNA and DNA isolation/preparation, sequencing, PCR, and other cellular and molecular biology techniques is strongly preferred.
- The candidate should be able to generate accurate and detailed research reports and laboratory records. Strong computer skills and the ability to learn and operate laboratory equipment is important to success in this position.
- Excellent communication skills, the ability to work with others, and a strong work ethic/enthusiasm for conducting research is highly preferred.
