Position Summary
As the Safety EMS Programs Supervisor, you will oversee all aspects of security, EMS, safety programs, and infrastructure within our organization. This role ensures the safety and well‑being of personnel, animals, facilities, guests, and vendors, and maintains preparedness for potential emergencies.

Reporting Relationship

Reports directly to the Safety EMS Manager and directly supervises the security staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Security Operations
  • Develop and implement comprehensive security protocols to safeguard personnel, facilities, and assets.
  • Assist other managers in supervising a team of security personnel, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations for both daytime and nighttime operations.
  • Conduct regular security assessments and audits to identify vulnerabilities and implement improvements.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement and external security agencies to enhance overall security measures.
  • Handle safety or security‑related complaints and oversee resolution of related situations.
  • Investigate or manage internal security or legal issues and report them professionally and confidentially.
  • Ensure 24/7/365 security coverage, meeting required commitments.
Emergency Medical Operations
  • Maintain a robust emergency medical response system.
  • Ensure employees are aware of and adhere to medical protocols and procedures.
  • Assist in planning and implementation of regular drills and training exercises to prepare staff for medical emergencies.
Crisis Management
  • Develop and maintain a crisis management plan to address potential scenarios.
  • Act as a primary point of contact or assist other Safety Managers during emergencies, liaising with relevant authorities and stakeholders.
  • Provide clear and timely communication to internal and external parties during crises.
  • Coordinate and lead the security/EMS team as incident command at various levels as needed.
Emergency Response Team
  • Become a member of the ERT after one year of employment or upon special approval.
Technology and Infrastructure
  • Assist with project management for the installation and service of all security and health safety alarms, electronic access control systems, reporting software, and CCTV systems.
  • Keep updated on the latest security and safety technologies, regulations, and best practices; recommend and implement relevant advancements.
  • Administer and maintain security systems including surveillance cameras, access control systems, keys, reporting software, and alarms.
  • Provide preventative maintenance for all security and health safety alarms, electronic access control systems, and CCTV systems.
Training and Education
  • Conduct regular training sessions for staff on security and emergency preparedness.
  • Foster a culture of preparedness and awareness throughout the organization.
  • Stay informed about industry standards and best practices and incorporate them into training programs.
  • Maintain understanding of AZA regulations, norms, and practices for training and safety infrastructure.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Proven experience in a leadership and logistics management role.
  • Certification in Security or Emergency Medical Response (e.g., Licensed Security, Basic Life Saving, Emergency Medical Responder).
Other Requirements
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Utah’s Hogle Zoo is a drug‑free workplace; all employees are subject to random drug testing.
Work Environment

The incumbent works in indoor and outdoor environments, with exposure to seasonal elements, dust, and allergens. Tasks require a variety of physical activities, including muscular strain. Eye, hand, and finger dexterity are required; ability to listen and respond to a handheld radio is essential. Must be able to stoop, bend, twist, turn, climb, jump, run when necessary, and lift 50 lbs.

A valid driver’s license is required.
