With a career in Law Enforcement as a Correctional Officer, you can earn a total possible compensation package valued up to $92,298.90 in the first year. The Utah Department of Corrections seeks individuals who can balance compassion with accountability while supervising offenders in our care and custody at the Utah State Correctional Facility and various correctional centers in Salt Lake and Weber counties.
Locations are dependent on availability; this recruitment is not for the Central Utah Correctional Facility – Gunnison.
- With a two‑year commitment as a Correctional Officer at UDC, you will receive a $6,000 signing bonus. The bonus consists of $3,000 awarded upon completion of the correctional officer training academy and a second $3,000 awarded on the first‑year anniversary, provided you remain employed for the 18‑month probationary period.
- Paid training through POST certification.

- No prior experience is required.
- Maintain safety and security of the facilities and pursue career path opportunities in training, transportation, programming, CIRT, investigations, and more.
- The department offers a contract buyout of up to $20,000 for qualified applicants currently working for another law enforcement agency in Utah.
UDC now offers 1:1 years of service credit on our certified pay plan. Pay rates range from $31.52 to $40.24 per hour, increasing yearly based on service credit.
Initial testing consists of a physical fitness test. Minimum requirements include:
- Vertical jump of 14.5 inches or higher
- 14 continuous push‑ups (military style)
- 30‑second plank
- 1.5‑mile run in 16 minutes 11 seconds or less
- Meet SFO Standards
- Meet POST Standards
- New hire employees in certified positions must not have any tattoos above the shirt collar line, including anywhere on the neck, head, or face.
- Preference may be given to those currently in public safety.
- Must be at least 19 years old before the Academy start date.
