Job Description
Under direction of the Sustainability Outreach Coordinator and Deputy Director, the incumbent supports sustainability education and outreach for residents, businesses, and city employees during a summer internship. Responsibilities include facilitating and promoting city‑wide sustainability initiatives, contributing editorial content to the SLCgreen blog, and attending community tabling events.

Position Hourly Range$18.00/hr
Key Responsibilities- Assists with all aspects of marketing and outreach related to the Department's programs and mission.
- Researches and writes articles for the SLCgreen blog covering a wide range of sustainability and environmental topics.
- Assists with content creation for SLCgreen website and social media.
- Serve as a primary point person for staffing the SLCgreen booth during community tabling events; tabling is the primary focus of the internship in the summer.
- Assists the department with surveys and outreach related to the City's climate plan, Climate Forward SLC.
- Assists the department with outreach related to the Utah Renewable Communities program.
- Analyzes, recommends changes, and develops creative outreach material to promote sustainability initiatives with different audiences.
- As needed, intern may also undertake a research project for the Department, including designing, developing, and conducting research, determining appropriate methodology, information sources, sampling strategies, and data‑collection tools.
- Writes or drafts technical reports, articles, or related material based on research, investigation or analysis.
- Performs communication and research activities by utilizing computer software.
- Other tasks as assigned and aligned with the student's background, academic goals, and interests.
- Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university; a summer internship may not require concurrent enrollment if the student is in good standing with the educational institution.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Good organizational and analytical skills.
- Good computer skills.
- Moderate physical effort; comfortable working conditions; handling light weights; intermittent sitting, standing, and walking may be required; subject to extended exposure to computer visual display terminals.
- Tabling activities entail transporting supplies and setting up a tent.
