Senior Software Engineer - End Effector

Responsibilities

Fulfilling duties as a Senior Software Engineer in Salt Lake City, UT, fully onsite contract (3‑6 months, extendable). The candidate will start ASAP.

Duties include:

• Integrate COTS end effectors and other hardware peripherals into Palladyne IQ
• Implement device drivers/adapters and a clean hardware abstraction for grippers/vacuum, tool changers, and I/O
• Bring‑up and debug hardware/firmware interfaces; define wiring maps and communication timing
• Add configuration, status, and error reporting hooks for IQ UI/telemetry
• Write automated bench tests and HIL tests; document bring‑up and field install steps
• Support shop‑floor trials and acceptance testing with customers

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Systems
• Senior Software Engineer with end‑effector integration experience
• Experience with C++ and Python
• Strong C++ for hardware/firmware interfacing and protocol parsing
• Hands‑on with industrial communications:
  Ether Net/IP, Modbus (TCP/RTU), IO-Link, serial interfaces; experience integrating COTS devices (IODD usage, vendor SDKs, serial/Ethernet bridges)
• Solid debugging (oscilloscope/logic analyzer/Wireshark) and real‑time/threading fundamentals
• Visa sponsorship is not available for this position

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.
