Principal Software Engineer

Position

Applied Signal Technology (AST) is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to work onsite in Salt Lake City, UT. The role requires a U.S. citizen with a valid TS/SCI security clearance and 8+ years of relevant experience.

• Degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics).
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in software engineering.
• Proficiency in modern languages such as C++ and Python.
• Strong knowledge of Linux development environments.
• Experience with data structures and efficient problem‑solving.
• Familiarity with containerization tools (Kubernetes, Helm, Podman).
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government‑issued TS/SCI security clearance.
• U.S. citizenship required for clearance eligibility.

• Multithreading and concurrency experience.
• Team and independent work experience.
• Knowledge of network protocols such as TCP/IP.
• Experience with Qt.
• UI development using Angular or similar frameworks.
• Embedded software design skills.
• Integration of software with hardware.
• Configuration management tools (git).
• Build processes (makefiles, CMake).
• Event‑driven systems and messaging platforms (Kafka).
• RESTful APIs and gRPC experience.
• Basic understanding of telecommunications systems and signal processing.
• Basic understanding of ITU standards.
• Active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph.
