Software Engineer Python​/Angular

Overview

Responsible for the research, design, development, analysis, testing, and implementation of software operating or application systems. Communicates project information to clients, project managers, or other design personnel. Maintains good working relationships with clients and staff. Writes and maintains complete documentation. Supports team members and ensures established goals and deadlines are met. Keeps management informed of status and significant problems.

• Maintains accountability for small, easily contained components within application architecture under guidance of team leadership.
• Demonstrates familiarity or introductory knowledge of software engineering competencies.
• Maintains accountability for quality in their assigned area and success of assigned projects for on-time, on-budget, and on-scope delivery.
• Contributes formally and informally to the effectiveness of the team.
• Speaks authoritatively and accurately with respect to questions related to their area of ownership.
• Applies strategies and tools to plan and execute testing strategies to maximize quality while minimizing costs.
• Demonstrates the  good enough  principle that balances quality and time to implement.
• Interprets functional and non-functional requirements into designs and code that meet specifications.
• Identifies gaps, risks, and deficiencies in requirements and proposes solutions.
• Writes technical requirements that can be interpreted by others into system realizations.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

• Understanding of processes associated with software development, including Planning, Measurement, Coding, Testing, Reuse, Tools, Abstraction, Algorithms and Complexity, Security and basic system understanding.
• Ability to employ tools and techniques related to an engineering discipline (e.g., database management, user interface development, inter-process communications).
• Ability to create designs that meet functional and non-functional requirements; use of design patterns, system decomposition, security, and fault tolerance.
• Experience with design methodologies (object-oriented, function-oriented, data-centered) and corresponding notations.
• Understanding of Software Development Life Cycle models and practical considerations; awareness of SaaS implications.
• Thinks at scale for reliability and cost in a public cloud environment; uses data and metrics to analyze KPIs.
• Ability to explain the value of a system and how subsystems inter-operate to provide features.
• Able to partner with Operations to solve problems and demonstrate urgency when needed.
• General awareness of the higher education landscape, including online education.
• Collaborates effectively within a team and engages stakeholders appropriately; communicates effectively in group settings.
• Identifies problems and escalates appropriately; discusses risks with more senior engineers or managers.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
• 2 years of experience developing web-based applications and web services using Java, REST, and related technologies
• Experience interfacing with databases and integrating third-party products with existing infrastructure
• Equivalent relevant experience in lieu of education, defined as 1 year of experience for 1 year of education

• Experience with IntelliJ/VS Code, JIRA, GIT
• Experience with Agile/Scrum
• Experience with IDM/OSSO, ASP.NET, DRUPAL, Groovy/Grails, Ruby/Rails, PHP, Hibernate/Seam, Banner, Drools, JBOSS
• Experience with Java or similar OO language; application integration with legacy systems
• Experience with Cloud-Native Development or porting/refactoring to cloud (AWS preferred)
• Experience with JavaScript/Type Script and UI frameworks (Angular, React, Vue.js)
• Experience with Oracle or other database interfaces

• Occasional travel up to 20% may be required, including attendance at designated company summits (typically one to two per year).
• Additional travel may include conferences, visits to company locations, and other business-related events as needed.
