Staff Software Engineer – Salt Lake City, Utah – Job

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will implement architectural designs, create applications, evaluate and implement new technologies, redesign existing applications, mentor teammates, solve problems, and resolve defects in an Agile environment.
Responsibilities- Develop architecture and design features, build prototypes, participate in design and code reviews, work with product owners and stakeholders, review user stories, and facilitate code reviews.
- Provide enterprise architecture guidance.
- Help define and evolve the technical vision for the company with a focus on microservices and replaceability.
- Evaluate and recommend technology choices to proactively meet business strategy with a perspective toward future adaptation.
- Maintain an ongoing awareness of industry standards and emerging technologies and how these relate to existing needs, potential product needs, technical needs and opportunities.
- Take the initiative to find software architecture education opportunities and share learnings with peer group and leaders.
- Develop new applications, maintain existing applications, and identify and deprecate obsolete code.
- Preserve and automate the deployment of developer source code and software assets via CI/CD.
- Work collaboratively with other developers and provide input, direction, and vision for product implementation.
- Act as a technical mentor for Software Engineering and QA team members.
- Facilitate team member opportunities to design, while steering them clear of problematic practices.
- Create, publish, and evangelize development and data model standards and guidelines.
- Participate in code reviews through pull/merge requests.
- Work closely with engineering and product owners to understand functional requirements as part of a product vision.
- Maintain consistency with the company’s technical vision.
- Provide third‑tier support when needed.
- Guide and consult with other engineering teams on critical design or performance issues.
- Evaluate technologies, evangelize standards and define long‑term strategies.
- Develop and modernize code and systems, automate using pipelines, support critical issues.
- Guide peer engineers, steer software design, review engineering output.
- Translate business requirements and educate the organization.
- Minimum 7years of software engineering experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, information systems, or a related field. Candidates with equivalent education and relevant work experience may also be considered.
- Sound working knowledge of application architecture principles, design patterns and their implementation.
- Experience with Spring Boot, Docker, Kubernetes, Spring, JBoss, Oracle Tomcat containers; HTTP, JSON, XML, and Web Service protocols.
- Proficiency in Java, JSP, Java Servlets, React and/or Angular, SQL, No
SQL, and web development concepts. - Experience with microservices, GraphQL or REST, version control systems, Gitflow branch/release management.
- Experience in decomposing monolith applications.
- Good knowledge of containerized application deployment.
- Understanding of dependency management (Maven, Jenkins, or Gradle).
- Understanding of Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery and the tools that support it (Jenkins, Hudson, Bamboo, Git Lab, etc.).
- Experience working in Agile development methodology (Scrum, XP, SAFe, etc.).
- Understanding of cloud application architecture in Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services or Google Cloud Platform.
- Experience with event‑driven integrations.
- Preferred: PKI, certificate lifecycle management, and hardware secure modules.
