BEPC is seeking a highly motivated Safety and Construction Engineer to join our client’s site. This role will support the implementation of the One Construction Safety Strategy by providing technical safety guidance, conducting risk assessments, and assuring contractor safety performance across project sites.
The Safety and Construction Engineer will act as the Directly Responsible Individual (DIR) for construction safety, serving as the primary point of contact for all safety-related matters on assigned projects. This position plays a key role in project safety governance, risk mitigation, and compliance with internal standards and applicable health and safety regulations.
Summary ofDuties and Responsibilities:
- Support Project Managers with construction safety governance, including management reviews, safety performance metrics, and safety-related presentations.
- Collaborate with Project Directors to proactively identify and forecast project-level safety risks and support mitigation strategies.
- Monitor and assure contractor safety performance, ensuring alignment with site safety practices and the overall construction safety strategy.
- Support the implementation of the Construction Safety Plan, including incident reporting, investigations, and tracking corrective actions with contractors.
- Provide technical guidance to project teams as a construction safety subject matter expert (SME), including support during contractor selection.
- Review and contribute to safety-related RFP documentation, including Construction Safety Plans and safety performance indicators.
- Ensure compliance with applicable national and regional health and safety regulations on construction projects.
- Lead or participate in project-level safety performance reviews.
- Participate in EHS-in-Design reviews to integrate safety considerations early in project planning.
- Facilitate effective safety communication between internal teams and external partners, promoting lessons learned, best practices, and safe execution.
- Monitor leading and lagging safety indicators and escalate unresolved issues in accordance with the Construction Safety Plan.
- 3+ years of experience in construction safety, EHS, or site safety support, including exposure to higher-risk construction activities.
- Working knowledge of OSHA and applicable regional or international safety regulations (e.g., Ministry of Labor, EU, ILO, OH&S).
- Experience supporting or overseeing contractor safety performance on construction projects.
- Completion of supervisor-level safety training (e.g., OSHA 30-hour or equivalent).
- Strong communication, collaboration, and technical documentation skills.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
