Position: 1099 Contractor with Music Ministry International.
Responsibilities- Provide musical support for all weekend, Holy Day, and Vigil liturgical celebrations of the Goodfellow Air Force Base Catholic community.
- Consult and coordinate with the Catholic Ministry Coordinator, Catholic Chaplain, or Auxiliary Priest for planning and leading music performances.
- Act as first cantor, leading singing of the community at all weekend liturgical celebrations.
- Conduct, recruit, organize, train, and lead the choir, ensuring at least one weekly rehearsal before scheduled services.
- Incorporate psalms, new songs, and hymns into the music program upon request from the Chaplain or Auxiliary Priest.
- Prepare a written liturgical plan by season (Advent/Christmas, Lent/Easter, Ordinary Time) including Holy Days and special celebrations.
- Develop and present the annual budget for the music program.
- Maintain harmonious relationships with choir members and chapel staff.
- Recruit new choir members continually.
- Participate in liturgical committee meetings and provide music for special/emergency services such as funerals.
- Ensure compliance with Federal, State, Local Laws, Air Force Instructions, and Chapel Operating Instructions.
- Submit applications for background checks in accordance with DoDI 1402.5 and ensure all volunteers under 18 receive background checks.
- Pay all applicable taxes and social security contributions.
- Coordinate or personally perform music services, and if necessary, arrange qualified substitutes approved by the Wing Chaplain.
- Proficient sight‑reading and playing a variety of liturgical Catholic folk songs.
- Knowledge and experience in Catholic musical traditions, including liturgical, traditional, and contemporary worship styles.
- Experience playing organ, piano, and collaborating with other musicians such as guitar, drums, trumpet, and other instruments.
- At least six months of experience as a choir director, cantor, or accompanist in a Catholic parish setting.
- Proficient in interpretation of vocal and instrumental scores, both traditional and contemporary Catholic music.
- In-depth knowledge of the Roman Catholic Mass, Liturgies, and the role of music in worship and liturgical seasons.
- Ability to synchronize music with choir and congregation.
- College degree in music or completion of college‑level music courses preferred.
- Provide letters of recommendation from two Roman Catholic pastors or priests attesting to performance and moral character.
