Position: TPWD – Customer Service Representative I (Fluctuating Hours) (00057714) – San Angelo

General Description

Exciting opportunity to join a dedicated team in preserving and protecting a 7,400-acre State Park featuring amazing views, diverse wildlife, camping, fishing, and hunting opportunities and over 40 miles of trails!

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Office Manager, this position performs entry‑level customer service work and is responsible for daily office operations, clerical duties, and providing quality customer service and information to the public for San Angelo State Park. Duties include processing correspondence and distributing incoming and outgoing mail; collecting license and permit sales, automated campsite registration, and accounting for daily revenue;

operating the credit card machine, campsite registration, computer and license sales machine; preparing reports, correspondence, and maintaining files; performing light maintenance and cleaning of office and restroom areas; training seasonal and volunteer staff; working under close supervision with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment; performing additional duties as assigned; and complying with all agency, division, and branch rules, regulations and procedures.

Position may fluctuate between full‑time and part‑time hours based on operational needs.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education:

    Graduation from high school or GED.
  • Experience:

    No experience required.
  • Licensure:
    Must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid Texas state driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of experience in general clerical, customer service or front‑desk reception or cash handling.
  • Experience in accounting, typing, record keeping, and data entry.
  • Bilingual in Spanish, French, or American Sign Language.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of general office procedures, administrative and clerical procedures, basic mathematics, telephone procedures and etiquette, basic custodial duties.
  • Skill in using MS Word, Excel, and Outlook; effective verbal and written communication; quality customer service; standard office equipment; preparing reports; establishing and maintaining effective work relationships; training others; accurately handling cash and accounting for revenue.
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision, as a member of a team, handle multiple tasks, resolve conflicts or disputes with customers, employees, and volunteers, work under stressful conditions, maintain flexibility with frequent interruptions and changing priorities, follow instructions accurately, perform manual labor including lifting supplies and materials up to 25 lbs, and conduct activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.
Working

Conditions
  • Required to work in a public park with overnight camping and day use.
  • Required to work 10 to 40 hours per week with hours outside 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
  • Required to adjust to changing schedules; position will fluctuate between part‑time and full‑time.
  • Required to perform manual labor including lifting supplies and materials up to 25 lbs; may be required to operate a state vehicle; required to travel 5 % with possible overnight stays.
  • Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures; non‑smoking environment in state buildings and vehicles.
