Job Description
The purpose of the Mentor Hub Facilitators is to create a dynamic, welcoming, and safe environment for students in the engineering hub. The Mentor Hub Facilitator is responsible for contributing to the overall success of the engineering program and its students by helping students develop a positive attitude, self-confidence, and motivation toward their academic work.
Mentor Hub Facilitators serve as an extra layer of support for our Angelo State Engineering Scholars Program (ASES) recipients. Mentors act as bridge-builders, able to direct their mentees to resources both on and off campus, upperclassmen in their desired field, and provide insight into how to navigate the early stages of their college transition. Mentors do this formally, through individual, small group, and large group gatherings, as well as informally, as a trusted point-of-contact throughout the year.
Job Duties and Expectations
- Maintain engineering hub by assuring all students are checking in and out, stocking supplies, and keeping workplaces clean
- Design and implement Hub programming that reflects the interests of engineering students and connects with the course curriculum. For example, workshops (time management, study skills), presentations (student research experiences or community engineering projects), and events (women in engineering, design challenges).
- Assist with preparations for various department and recruitment events
- Serve as a role model/peer mentor for students
- Encourage and facilitate student/faculty relationship building
- Promote department events to engineering majors
- Provide department/lab tours, as necessary
- Assist in STEM outreach activities and programs
- Planning mentee gatherings
- Meeting with or reaching out to mentees
- Performing other duties as assigned
- Professional office etiquette
- Ability to communicate well with students and faculty
- Detail-oriented with excellent organization skills
- Exceptional time management skills
- Ability to work with a diverse group of students
All Student Peer Mentor Hub Facilitators will be limited to no more than 20 hours per week. The goal is to provide staffing during Hub peak hours (typically M - F 10am-6pm). The Student Hub Facilitators will be supervised by the Director of Engineering Student Success Services in the DLH Engineering Department.
