Primary
Purpose:
Serve as a resource for teachers to identify and demonstrate instructional strategies, best practices, and interventions to promote maximum success for students with auditory impairments in all areas of the curriculum. Provide instruction in compensatory and special skills areas related to hearing loss, assess students’ needs, provide services to support placements, and offer consultant and technical assistance to teachers and related personnel.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree;
Valid Texas teaching certificate in education of students with auditory impairments;
Master’s Degree preferred. - Special Knowledge/
Skills:
Adequate knowledge of sign language and related technologies; functional hearing implications; assessment instruments, policies, and procedures for hearing impairment; core curriculum and instructional strategies; successful classroom teaching experience; strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; knowledge of resources for students with multiple and hearing impairments. - Experience: Three years classroom teacher experience.
- Assist teachers individually and in small groups.
- Demonstrate best practice lessons.
- Incorporate strategies that align with the district’s curriculum.
- Communicate with teachers to develop effective classroom strategies and monitor progress.
- Evaluate students to support ongoing instructional decision‑making.
- Model best practices in small group instruction.
- Provide direct instructional services to students with auditory impairments as outlined in the IEP.
- Supply classroom teachers with equipment, materials, and strategies; collaborate with technology staff on adaptive equipment.
- Assist students in maximizing use of auditory and residual hearing.
- Assess functional auditory and learning media; develop assessment reports for eligibility.
- Provide technical assistance to assessment staff.
- Assist teachers in interpreting assessments and writing IEPs.
- Collaborate with teachers to incorporate assessment data into instruction.
- Assist teachers with implementing appropriate resources to maximize progress.
- Continuously assess functional auditory in various school settings.
- Screen and assess new referrals during full assessment process.
- Provide students and parents with information on available resources.
- Re‑evaluate students’ functional auditory examinations every three years.
- Consult with teachers, parents, caseworkers, audiologist, community agencies, orientation and mobility, and others regarding students with audio impairments.
- Prepare for and attend Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee meetings.
- Attend examinations with an audiologist.
- Provide services to students with audio impairments outside school hours and community settings.
- Attend state conferences and other training opportunities.
- Assist in providing training that emphasizes scientifically researched instruction and technology.
- Use professional learning to demonstrate effective implementation.
- Train tutors and others in best practices and resources.
- Tools/Equipment Used:
Standard office equipment, computer, peripherals, electronic devices. - Posture:
Prolonged sitting and standing, occasional kneeling/squatting, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, twisting. - Motion:
Frequent repetitive hand motions, keyboarding, use of mouse. - Lifting:
Lifting up to 30 lb without assistance, 30–55 lb with assistance. - Environment:
Classroom and office setting; frequent in‑district travel; occasional irregular and prolonged hours. - Mental Demands:
Maintain emotional control under stress, work with frequent interruptions.
