The David L. Hirschfeld Department of Engineering invites applications for a full‑time, nine‑month, tenure‑track Assistant Professor position in Mechanical Engineering. We seek a dynamic and innovative faculty member who will contribute to both undergraduate and graduate education as the department continues to expand. The department currently offers BSME and BSCE programs and is actively developing a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering program.
The successful candidate will teach a range of lecture and laboratory courses in areas such as controls, mechatronics, autonomous systems, robotics, nonlinear and adaptive control, and learning‑based or data‑driven control. Candidates should also demonstrate strong potential to develop a scholarly research agenda that includes securing external funding and producing impactful work in control systems, robotics, or related fields. Additional responsibilities include advising students, supporting student organizations, and contributing to departmental, college, and university service.

- Participate in developing an integrated mechanical engineering master’s degree curriculum.
- Actively support development of a culturally responsive engineering curriculum.
- Teach, develop, and continuously improve undergraduate and graduate courses and labs to support the curriculum.
- Develop, outfit, and serve as lab coordinator for current and new controls and robotics laboratories.
- Participate in assessment efforts to support curricular development and maintain ABET accreditation.
- Advise undergraduate and graduate students.
- Develop a program of scholarly activities consistent with the candidate’s interests and university objectives.
- Seek outside funding for scholarly activities and research.
- Ability to design active, engaging, and innovative learning environments for students.
- Ability to effectively integrate technology to enhance student learning and classroom experiences.
- Ability to conduct both formative and summative assessments and use the results to improve instruction and student outcomes.
- Ability to create learning environments that support the academic success of women, Hispanic students, and other underrepresented groups.
- Ability to apply and/or conduct research in engineering education.
- Ability to develop and sustain an ongoing research program that involves both undergraduate and graduate students.
- Earned doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Effective communication, teamwork, and planning skills.
- Demonstrated teaching excellence commensurate with the level of appointment.
- Record of or potential for scholarly work commensurate with the level of appointment.
