Camp Curiosity Mentor

The Mayer Museum is seeking 6 responsible Angelo State University students to work as camp counselors at Camp Curiosity from July 20th through August 7th. Camp mentors will need to be available for Camp Training from July 20th to July 24th, specific times and dates TBD. Camp mentors will report directly to the Museum Director and our Lead Mentor.

Camp Curiosity leads students through a weeklong exploration of ASU campus and departments. Each camp will include up to 12 different activities and programs created and led by ASU students, faculty, staff, and partners, as well as special alumni guests. The camps will also feature visits to various sites around campus, including:

• Physics Lab
• Ceramics and other Fine Arts
• Cybersecurity Computer Lab
• STEM Lab

• Serve as positive role models for campers (ages 8-14), ensure camper safety, and encourage participation and engagement in camp activities
• Implement campus curriculum and other activities for campers, and keep camp on schedule
• Be aware of medical and emergency information for campers to ensure their safety

The ideal candidate should possess the following characteristics:

• Proven experience working with children
• The ability to remain positive and collected under stressful situations
• Physically active, enjoys outdoor activities and is able to walk and hike at least 1/2 mile
• An interest in art, science, museums and/or nature
• A creative problem solver and self-motivator
• Dependable, organized and friendly
• Open to trying and learning new things
• Team player, works extremely well with others

$12 per hour.
