Job Summary
Assists with the daily operations of the Student Disability Services Office, including managing the accommodation database, overseeing personnel and test administration, coordinating the application process, and supporting programming and training initiatives to ensure access and support for students with disabilities.
- Verify required items are received and diagnosis documentation is complete and contains necessary information; meet with students to recommend reasonable academic and housing accommodations to the Director using an online system to track documentation, applications, and associated notes; review students’ rights and responsibilities, communicate and thoroughly record details during intake meetings; review all applications and Emotional Support Animal requests before forwarding to Director for approval.
- Work with faculty members as needed to ensure the accommodations approved for students do not alter the learning outcomes of the course.
- Assist with the oversight of test administration for students with disabilities using the online system; effectively communicate with the faculty and students regarding test accommodations and the process of requesting an exam be administered with Student Disability Services; ensure exam security and confidentiality is maintained; verify proper methods of delivery based on the approved accommodations.
- Assist with training student employees and programming opportunities for the campus community on occasion.
- Provide information about the Office of the Dean of Students at various recruiting and orientation events.
- Represent Student Disability Services at various community events.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of disability services and university policies and procedures;
- Knowledge of computerized operating systems;
- Knowledge of creating programs and training opportunities;
- Ability to assist with supervision of student staff;
- Ability to troubleshoot, problem-solve and determine appropriate solutions;
- Ability to clearly and effectively communicate verbally and in writing;
- Ability to work collaboratively with administrators, faculty, staff and students;
- Ability to use a computer, printer, photocopier, fax machine, phone system and calculator.
Bachelors degree in a related field.
Preferred QualificationsExperience in special education or disability services in higher education (a graduate student position/intern experience would qualify). Secondary or post-secondary experience in special education or disability services.
