The OpportunityWe are on the lookout for a Lead Protection and Control Technician possessing strong technical skills in protective relaying, commissioning, and troubleshooting. In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting complex testing activities, collaborating with engineering teams, and ensuring top-quality execution across substation projects.
What You'll Do- Commission, install, and maintain protective relaying equipment, DFRs, SCADA systems, and automation systems.
- Conduct end-to-end relay testing using industry-standard tools such as Doble Protection Suite, Omicron Test Universe, and RTS.
- Execute comprehensive functional and scheme testing, including reclosing, breaker failure, logic schemes, and communication-assisted protection.
- Troubleshoot protocols including DNP3, Modbus, and 8979 utilizing Wireshark, Accelerator, and ASE 2000.
- Assist in developing standardized testing procedures to enhance efficiency and reliability.
- Collaborate with clients, vendors, and engineering teams to ensure successful project outcomes.
- Mentor and guide junior technicians to promote professional development.
- 1-5 years of field experience in relay testing, calibration, or substation commissioning with minimal supervision.
- Strong understanding of three-phase power systems and protection schemes.
- Proficiency in using Omicron, Doble, Vanguard, and related test equipment.
- Experience with RTS, Test Universe, Protection Suite, and Accelerator.
- Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills.
- A valid driver's license and willingness to travel as required.
