Network Engineer - Goodfellow AFB, TX

Position:
Network Engineer 3 (Security and Electronic Systems (SES) Business Unit)

Responsibilities:

• Survey reports measuring results and present them in actionable form to senior personnel and management.
• Conduct surveys, inspections, tours of client sites as required.

• Install, configure, and maintain network services, equipment, and devices.
• Collaborate with field engineers to simulate expected system‑level performance and provide rapid feedback on potential improvements.
• Assist senior network engineers in identifying and resolving network security issues.
• Develop network designs for each SLA classification.
• Prepare design documents for small projects and support large programs.
• Create narrative and system design documents, including CAD panels, layouts, wiring, hardware, and communications.
• Prepare specifications, perform QA/QC and technical reviews of designs.
• Conduct comment resolution, testing, and commissioning reviews/approvals of test plans for safety, risk, and manufacturability.
• Author test plans, lead and supervise testing activities, and develop commissioning procedures.
• Prepare test reports and perform commissioning of deployed systems.
• Develop test fixtures and simulation devices, and generate standard PITCO plans and procedures.
• Design and perform complete system integration tests.

• Troubleshoot and debug complex network problems and recommend operational efficiency improvements.
• Perform preventive maintenance (software/hardware/firmware upgrades), including security updates and performance upgrades, and schedule maintenance.
• Develop and submit maintenance plans and roll‑back plans.
• Serve as backup for team members during paid time off.
• Perform hardware and software upgrades and replacements on existing systems.
• Support a 24/7 on‑call schedule.

• Document key procedures and troubleshooting of network operations.
• Apply a moderate understanding of network administration as it relates to business operations.
• Assist team members in identifying and resolving basic/moderate network and telecom issues.
• Interpret and analyze results versus established benchmarks and goals.
• Collaborate with project managers to meet expectations for network tasks.
• Complete project tasks and assignments to meet deadlines.
• Contribute to own team and closely related teams through quality and accuracy of output.
• Conduct research on available technologies and products as needed by operations or project managers.

• Prepare cost estimates and supporting documents for projects.
• Assist senior engineers in preparing bids and proposals, cost estimates, and supporting documentation.
• Help price change orders and develop standard procedures for the network engineering team.
• Collaborate with other disciplines to define work and interfaces.

Clearance/Citizen Type
:
Must be U.S. Citizen and able to obtain a DoD SECRET clearance.

Education
:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, IT, or related discipline plus 5+ years of progressive experience.

• Knowledge of ITIL concepts.
• Understanding of security issues and implications for network solutions.
• Knowledge of network technologies, tools, and philosophies, and the ability to design a network infrastructure and services.
• Knowledge of system development methodology, project management, system architecture, and analytical/problem‑solving skills.
