District Engineer – Brownwood District or San Angelo District

We are seeking innovative and service-driven leaders to serve as District Engineers for the Brownwood or San Angelo Districts, guiding teams responsible for designing, building, operating, and maintaining the state transportation system. These districts face diverse operational challenges, from extreme summer heat to sub-freezing winter conditions, requiring strong leadership to maintain critical assets and ensure the safety of the traveling public.

Other Locations: UST-Texas-San Angelo

Travel: Yes, 25% of time

Responsibilities

Provides executive-level direction, management, and engineering oversight of all activities in a district, including transportation planning, operations, right-of-way, design, construction, inspection, maintenance, safety, and environmental functions, as well as administrative and support activities. Reports directly to the Director of District Operations. Recommends facilities, personnel staffing and funding levels required to carry out programs. Must travel extensively and maintain contact with business and community leaders, contractors, special interest or trade groups, governmental and transportation officials at the local, state, federal or international levels, the media and private entities.

Performs work at the highest level of discretion and independent judgment and is responsible for final outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering related discipline. Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.
  • Experience: 6 years transportation engineering as a Licensed Professional Engineer (LPE) in planning, location, design, construction, operation and maintenance (full time or prorated part time equivalent). Must have 5 years managerial/supervisory experience.
Licenses & Certifications
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a state vehicle.
  • Tx Licensed Professional Engineer. If licensed in another U.S. state but not currently licensed in Texas, must meet Texas licensing requirements within six months of hire and sign an agreement.
