Under general supervision, performs professional juvenile probation case management services in accordance with Texas law, Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) standards, court orders, and departmental policies. Juvenile Probation Officers are required to function interchangeably in community supervision and secure detention environments based on operational needs.

• Conducts juvenile intake, assessment, and investigation activities, including interviewing juveniles and families, verifying identity, evaluating risk and needs, and determining detention, supervision, or release recommendations in accordance with the Texas Family Code and TJJD standards.
• Provides comprehensive case management for assigned juvenile cases, including development, implementation, and monitoring of individualized supervision and service plans; completion of required assessments; and maintenance of accurate, timely case documentation and data entry.
• Monitors and enforces compliance with court orders and probation conditions through drug testing, field contacts, home, school, and community visits, collateral contacts, and coordination with service providers.
• Prepares written reports and recommendations for the Juvenile Court, including social history reports, violation reports, disposition recommendations, and other court-required documentation; and appears in court as required to provide testimony.
• Coordinates services and communicates with internal and external stakeholders, including attorneys, schools, law enforcement, detention staff, treatment providers, and families to support case outcomes and public safety.
• Refers juveniles and families to appropriate treatment and support services, monitors participation and progress, and adjusts supervision strategies based on compliance, risk, and rehabilitative needs.
• Obtains, maintains, and complies with all required certifications, including dual certification as a Juvenile Supervision Officer and Juvenile Probation Officer, and performs duties in both community supervision and secure detention settings, including supervising detained juveniles and enforcing facility rules in accordance with Texas Administrative Code, TJJD standards, and departmental policy.

• Observes juveniles’ physical, emotional, and medical condition and make appropriate referrals.
• Conducts counseling or educational groups for juveniles and family members.
• Participates in community outreach, presentations, and interagency meetings.
• Assists other probation officers or jurisdictions as requested.
• Maintains professional knowledge through training and continuing education.
• Documents and maintains chronological recordings and case records for office files and court presentations as required by the Court, the Chief Probation Officer, and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department.
• Attends court hearings, detention hearings, ARD meetings, and any other community meetings that may affect the disposition of a juvenile’s case or where probation department input is necessary.
• Transports juveniles to scheduled appointments for school, work, medical treatment, counseling, emergency shelters, and placement.
• Responsible for case management of all assigned cases, including JCMS data entry, case plans, completing MAYSI/PACT/other assessments, preparing court reports for pre-dispositions, adjudications/dispositions, modifications, determinate sentencing, certification, transfer hearings, etc.; and is required to be present and testify at all hearings of assigned cases.
• Researches family situation, placement alternatives, and special needs of the child in order to develop individual probation plans for assigned cases and completes placement packet as applicable.
• Carrying out new or modified programs implemented by the Court, Chief Juvenile Probation Officer, or TJJD.
