The Agora Companies is searching for a strategic Director of Supplement Development to join a growing health publishing and dietary supplement company. We see significant opportunity in our supplement business and seek a dynamic, experienced professional to help drive that growth. This individual will work with our teams to bring to market effective, innovative products our customers love and that help the business maximize revenue.

The Director of Supplement Development will be responsible for leading our product development and commercialization strategies from concept through launch. You’ll build partnerships with manufacturers and ingredient suppliers, and ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory guidelines.

Responsibilities:

  • Define and own our dietary supplement development strategy, aligning with company goals and market opportunities
  • Lead market research and competitive analysis to identify customer needs, market trends, and growth opportunities
  • Evaluate, prioritize, and implement new product ideas, packaging innovations, and line extensions
  • Partner with Marketing to establish go-to-market plans, pricing, product positioning, and communication strategies
  • Work with our Legal department to establish and substantiate marketing claims
  • Set and manage production timelines, product launch schedules, and cross-functional deliverables
  • Maintain deep knowledge of industry trends, emerging technologies, and customer behavior to inform product strategy
  • Formulate supplements, qualify ingredients, and create substantiation files to support product safety and efficacy
  • Review and create Supplement/Nutrition Fact Panels in compliance with CFR FDA label guidelines
  • Oversee ingredient screening, finished product testing, and stability protocols
  • Interpret scientific literature and prepare research reports that guide product claims and positioning
  • Collaborate with ingredient suppliers to evaluate quality, negotiate price, and explore innovation opportunities
  • Balance big-picture strategy with detail-oriented execution, ensuring speed-to-market without sacrificing compliance or effectiveness
  • You’ll be a one-person show for now, but we anticipate building a team of product managers and support staff under your leadership as growth requires

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or related field required
  • Master’s degree in Nutrition, Food Science, or related field preferred
  • Minimum 3 years in dietary supplement product development, nutrition R&D, or related field (5+ years preferred)
  • Proven ability to manage projects from concept to market launch

    Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams (Quality, Regulatory, Marketing, Legal, Fulfillment, Copy Team, Customer Service, Editorial)
  • Expertise in pricing, planning, and financial analysis
  • Strong foundation in product development, project management, and nutrition research
  • Knowledge of FDA and FTC compliance for dietary supplements

    Skilled at turning scientific research and substantiated claims into clear, consumer-friendly marketing language

    Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills

Compensation Range – $90,000 - $120,000 USD

Location(s) & Work Arrangement –
Mt. Vernon, Baltimore / Hybrid preferred, but open to fully remote
