Center Medical Specialist

Performs physical examination and establishes medical history to determine donor suitability. Builds rapport with donors to ensure overall customer satisfaction, maintains donor and staff confidentiality, and provides donor education regarding general health and counseling for unacceptable test results. Responsible for donor awareness of potential hazards and for evaluating & managing donor injuries and adverse events. Performs evaluations of any history of illness or medications to ensure continued donor suitability and assists in employee training.

Administers employee Hepatitis Vaccine program.

• Educated and currently certified/licensed in the state of employment and according to state requirements as an EMT‑Basic, EMT‑Advanced, Paramedic, Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse.
• Current CPR certification required.

• Work performed standing and sitting for 2 to 4 hours per day each.
• Position requires bending and twisting of neck up to 2 hours per day.
• Frequent hand movement with ability to make fast, simple finger, hand and wrist movements.
• Ability to make precise coordinated movements of the fingers to grasp and manipulate objects.
• Frequent foot movement; may squat, crouch or sit on heels on rare occasions. Occasional walking, bending and twisting at waist.
• Light lifting of 15 lbs with maximum lift of 50 lbs; may reach below shoulder height. Hearing acuity essential.
• Color perception/discrimination with near vision and far vision correctable in one eye to 20/30 and in the other to 20/100.
• Able to communicate information and ideas so others understand; can listen to and understand spoken words and sentences.
• Works independently and within guidance of oral or written instructions.
• Performs a wide range of tasks as dictated by variable demands and changing conditions.
• Relates sensitive information to diverse groups. Work performed in a plasma center.
• Exposure to biological fluids with potential exposure to infectious organisms.
• Exposure to electrical office and laboratory equipment.
• Exposure to extreme cold below 32°F while performing functions in plasma freezers; personal protective equipment required such as protective eyewear, garments, gloves and cold gear.
