Research Associate, Clinical Research

The role

Research Associate – manage research studies for internal product validation, new prototype testing, feature development, and large‑scale external validation studies. Responsibilities include hands‑on data collection, operational study setup, and frequent communication with subjects to ensure high‑quality completion within human research practices. This role reports to the Senior Director of Science & Clinical Research on the Research & Development team.

• Subject recruitment, screening, & scheduling: recruit subjects for internal studies, build out the beta tester and lab tester databases to improve efficiencies and workflows.
• Data collection & trial management
  • Manage day‑to‑day operation of research studies, including IRB submissions, recruitment, scheduling, reminder emails & calls, equipment ordering, etc.
  • Spend 80–90% of your time collecting data to meet product decision deadlines.
  • During sleep studies, set up the study and respond to emails/phone calls between 6‑9 PM on weeknights and monitor data over weekends.
• Data management
  • Maintain accurate study records and regulatory documentation in line with IRB and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Perform quality assurance of all collected data to ensure completeness and accuracy; follow up with subjects to resolve problems, address queries, or clarify data collected.

• 1+ years experience running human factors research, user testing, or in‑person human research studies.
• Experience with prototype hardware, software, Google Suite, and command‑line tools.
• Basic understanding of hardware, software, and firmware for data collection purposes.
• Superior communication skills, excellent time management & organizational skills, high attention to detail, and adaptability.
• Willing to work nights & weekends for study setup and checks.
• Willing to travel locally to users’ houses (must have a car) to set up the Pod for testing.
• Able to lift ~25 pounds and change the Pod cover & sheets on a mattress.
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Human Physiology, Psychology, Neuroscience, Computer Science, or related field.

• 2+ years experience in wearable devices, medical devices, or a related industry that measures/monitors humans.
• Experience running small and large‑scale user research studies, including in‑person and decentralized formats.
• Experience coding in Python.
• Previous experience in a startup environment.
• Experience delivering informed consents & following HIPAA guidelines for data management.
