Job Summary
The Building Maintenance Technician I supports the upkeep and functionality of University buildings by performing semi‑skilled maintenance, repair, and construction tasks. This role assists with carpentry, general repairs, preventative maintenance, and event support to help ensure safe, well‑maintained campus facilities.

Typical Duties Carpentry & Structural Repairs- Perform basic carpentry work, including installing and repairing drywall, framing, doors, cabinets, and finish hardware.
- Form and finish concrete as required.
- Replace damaged floor, ceiling, and ceramic tile; apply grout in showers, tile areas, and other appropriate locations.
- Install and repair toilet partitions.
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance for University buildings, dormitories, and apartments.
- Service and adjust doors, closers, and related hardware using various hand tools.
- Assemble furniture, benches, bleachers, and office equipment received through the warehouse.
- Move and arrange furniture, tables, and other items to support office relocations and campus event setup.
- Erect scaffolding, ladders, and safety equipment to complete tasks at elevated heights.
- Order necessary supplies and materials for projects from Central Stores.
- Participate in after‑hours, holiday, and weekend repairs on a rotating on‑call schedule.
- Respond to emergency maintenance needs as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Basic building maintenance methods, carpentry practices, and repair procedures.
- Warehouse and inventory processes related to ordering maintenance supplies and materials.
- Applicable department and University policies and procedures.
- Skilled in the safe and effective use of hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.
- Determine appropriate materials and supplies needed for maintenance and repair projects.
- Perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Read, understand, and apply information from operation manuals, maintenance guides, assembly instructions, and related materials.
- Follow written and verbal instructions and complete assigned work accurately and efficiently.
- Any combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position.
- Two years of general building maintenance experience, or closely related experience that includes basic carpentry skills.
- Must hold a valid Texas driver’s license and maintain a driving record acceptable to the University’s insurance provider.
- Lift, carry, push, and pull materials, tools, equipment, and furniture weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, climb, and work in awkward or confined spaces for extended periods.
