The Electrician I assists with the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and performs related facility maintenance work of moderate difficulty, working under the supervision of the departmental director or Senior/Master electricians.
ResponsibilitiesSkills and Abilities
Knowledge
- Knowledge of electrical theory, electrical maintenance practices and procedures, and applicable NEC codes
- Knowledge of common hand tools, including screwdrivers, drills, and saws
- Knowledge of basic electrical testing equipment used in this role
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions related to building maintenance, with an emphasis on electrical safety
- Knowledge of and ability to follow University policies and procedures
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical devices and systems
- Ability to perform basic electrical and related building maintenance work in various climatic conditions
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and complete assigned work
- Ability to read, understand, and apply installation and maintenance instructions
- Ability to safely use ladders and lifts and work at heights of up to 50 feet
Minimum Requirements
- Completion of a recognized electrician apprenticeship program or a trade/vocational school program
- Five years of journey‑level electrician experience
- State of Texas Journeyman Electrician license required
- Valid Texas driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to the University’s insurance carrier
- Must successfully pass a background check
- Ability to maintain the security or integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, the electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment systems, or water treatment systems
- Employees in this role will be subject to regular reviews to ensure they do not pose a security risk due to criminal history or ties to foreign adversaries
