Job DescriptionPOSITION TITLE: HVAC Mechanic
EXEMPTION STATUS: Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: HVAC Foreman
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 months
HOURLY SALARY RANGE: Minimum $21.57, Midpoint $25.99, Maximum $30.41
Primary
Purpose:
Maintain, repair, and install heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems throughout the district. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all HVAC systems in district facilities.
QualificationsEducation/Certification
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Texas driver’s license
- Reclamation and Recycling Services Technician and Reclamation and Recycling Certification
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Knowledge of HVAC repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations
- Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
- Ability to use hand and power tools
Experience:
One year experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties Maintenance and Repair- Diagnose and repair malfunctions in various types of heating and air conditioning systems, including rooftop equipment.
- Install new heating and air conditioning systems and components.
- Relocate and expand existing HVAC systems as needed.
- Repair, replace, or calibrate controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring.
- Fabricate, assemble, and install duct work and piping according to specifications and code.
- Wire and connect motors, compressors, temperature controls, and humidity controls according to wiring schematics.
- Maintain freon dispensing records to meet federal requirements.
- Clean work areas, machines, tools and equipment.
- Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency.
- Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and immediately report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor.
- Participate in professional learning activities related to HVAC and energy management programs.
- Articulate the district’s mission and goals to the community and solicit community support.
- Tools/Equipment Used: Mechanical and electrical testing equipment, hand tools, ladder, scaffolding, district vehicle
- Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting
- Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion and extension, overhead reaching, visual acuity, driving
- Lifting: Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds without assistance and more than 30 pounds with assistance
- Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, electrical hazards; work irregular and prolonged hours; district wide travel
- Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress, work with interruptions
