The San Domenico summer camp program offers children aged 4-18 a rich assortment of sports, academic, and enrichment programs, including art, music, digital art, film, and STEM-oriented programs. Our camps are located on San Domenico’s beautiful 515 acre campus in San Anselmo.
About the RoleWe are seeking a passionate, creative Garden Teacher and collaborative team member with experience in environmental or outdoor education for children. This role is an opportunity to work alongside a dedicated staff team, guiding campers through engaging, hands‑on experiences in our one-acre school garden and across our 500-acre campus. The Garden Teacher will design and lead age‑appropriate gardening lessons and activities for campers ages 4‑10 that foster curiosity, creativity, and imaginative play while nurturing a connection to the natural world.
The ideal candidate brings practical gardening knowledge, experience working with children, and the ability to create a safe, joyful, and engaging learning environment.
- Plan and lead daily garden‑based activities for campers
- Teach foundational gardening skills, including planting, watering, weeding, and harvesting.
- Design and facilitate engaging garden experiences that encourage curiosity, imaginative play, and exploration.
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment for all campers.
- Communicate effectively with camp directors, families, and fellow staff as needed.
- Supervise and support campers during all gardening activities.
- Care for the garden space, tools, and equipment to ensure safety and readiness.
- Experience supervising and instructing groups of children in outdoor or garden‑based activities.
- Knowledge of basic gardening practices and seasonal growing techniques.
- Ability to plan and deliver engaging, age‑appropriate lessons in a dynamic and enjoyable way.
- Strong organizational, communication, and time‑management skills.
- First Aid and CPR certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred.
- Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM
- Mandatory Training:
July 10th - This position is nonexempt, which is eligible for paid overtime in accordance with applicable state and federal law. The position pays $25–$32 per hour. Final placement within this range is commensurate with a candidate’s specific experience and qualifications; typically, those with fewer years of experience can expect placement toward the lower end of the scale.
- As a temporary summer employee, this position is ineligible for most school benefits.
