Senior Accountant - Payroll & Benefits Focus

Job Summary

We are hiring a Senior Accountant with strong experience in payroll accounting, benefits, and general ledger operations. This role supports payroll entries, benefits and 401(k) accounting, accounts payable, and month-end close activities while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting.

Ideal candidates are detail-driven, deadline-oriented, and comfortable owning payroll-related accounting functions in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities

• Record and reconcile payroll entries into the general ledger
• Support benefits and 401(k) accounting, reconciliations, and reporting
• Assist with accounts payable processing and review
• Support collections and accounts receivable follow-up as needed
• Prepare journal entries and perform account reconciliations
• Lead or support month-end and year-end close
• Maintain and analyze general ledger accounts
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, payroll regulations, and internal controls
• Assist with internal and external audits
• Identify and implement accounting process improvements

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (required)
• 3+ years of accounting experience
• Strong understanding of payroll accounting and benefits reconciliation
• Working knowledge of GAAP
• Experience with accounting or ERP systems
• Strong Excel skills and attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA or CPA-eligible
• Experience with multi-state payroll or benefits administration
• Experience in a high-volume or multi-entity environment

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary Range: $70,000 - $95,000 (DOE)
