Position Summary

Looking for an individual who is a quick study, motivated to excel and strives to gain valuable knowledge and experience with a progressive affordable housing developer and manager. Of utmost importance, primary responsibilities will be performance of general ledger and financial accounting, with preparation of monthly financial statements for assigned properties (12-15). May also be asked to prepare reports for regulatory requirements and assists with external auditors as required.

Job Duties /Responsibilities
  • Reconcile bank accounts and cash tracking schedules monthly.
  • Analyze general ledger accounts and transactions for correct general ledger account coding.
  • Review and make accruals entries as needed.
  • Review detail subledgers (AR, fixed assets, AP, etc.) and tie out to GL control accounts.
  • Make and post journal entries as needed with proper support.
  • Tie out mortgage balances to lender balances.
  • Accrue and post interest on intercompany and other debts.
  • Run monthly intercompany reconciliation reports to ensure agreement to other entity balances.
  • Prepare the monthly financial reports for each property utilizing company software, including surplus cash.
  • Prepare and maintain RFR draw logs and assist in compilation of RFR draw packages.
  • Prepare annual audit work papers for assigned properties with backup using prior year packages as templates and be prepared to explain items to third party auditors as requested.
  • Any special projects as requested.
  • Responsible for alerting Controller or Assistant Controller and assisting in appropriate resolution of problem situations.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities – General Performance
  • Accuracy, timeliness and adherence to a high professional standard is essential to ensure financial reporting systems in place are correctly recording material financial transactions.
  • Evidence of demonstrable problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and individuals outside the organization.
  • Must be able to work extended hours and weekends when important deadlines must be met. Such requirements typically occur during audit period (January – mid-February).
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.
Education & Experience Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • Company is willing to train qualified individuals, so no prior affordable housing or multifamily accounting experience is required.
  • Existing staff will assist and train new employees in use of company software and systems.
  • Company encourages accounting staff to pursue CPA accreditation.
Communication Required

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not essential.
Physical and Mental Requirements
  • Position is primarily sedentary in nature.
  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for an extended period of time.
  • Ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stoop as necessary.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to see details at close range.
  • The mental work demands regular attendance, working well with others, verbal contact with others, noise and occasional travel by conventional means.
