Job Description & How to Apply Below
KM BUILDERS, a residential remodeling contractor, is looking for an experienced, hands-on Controller/CFO to run our financial and back-office operations.
This isn't a high-level oversight role — you'll personally process payroll, manage invoicing and collections, handle tax filings, administer HR and benefits, and keep our financial reporting and job costing on track. You'll report directly to ownership and work closely with our Project Managers, field supervisors, and outside partners.
What you'll own:Payroll:
- Process weekly payroll for office and construction employees — direct deposit, tax liability payments, fund transfers — on a strict weekly deadline schedule
- Review and correct daily timesheets, resolve cost-code issues, manage mileage reimbursement
- Administer PTO, holiday pay, loan deductions; verify overtime calculations
- File quarterly/annual payroll tax forms (941, 940, TWC/TWCC) and year-end W-2/W-3
- Generate and issue customer invoices for contract draws and change orders
- Maintain weekly financial and cash-flow reporting for ownership
- Manage construction-loan draw requirements for financed customers
- Maintain the company P&L, direct/indirect cost tracking, and labor burden analysis
- Submit reporting to our outside financial benchmarking partner
- Manage quarterly sales tax and annual property tax filings
- Coordinate with our outside CPA on federal income and franchise tax
- Prepare and file 1099s, OSHA Form 300A, ACA Form 1095-B, and IRS Form 720
- Make quarterly estimated federal tax payments
- Manage new-hire onboarding, background checks, and benefits enrollment
- Administer employee benefits programs and coordinate annual renewals
- Process workers' compensation claims
- Handle day-to-day HR and employment documentation
- Manage annual renewals for general liability, workers' comp, auto, and EPLI coverage
- Serve as the primary contact for our banking relationships
- Oversee vendor records, record keeping, and document retention
- 5+ years in a controller, senior accounting, or CFO role — construction/remodeling or another project-based industry strongly preferred
- Strong Quick Books skills (payroll, invoicing, reporting, 1099s)
- Experience with construction management software (e.g., Builder Trend) a plus
- Solid grasp of payroll tax, sales tax, and small-business compliance
- High attention to detail and comfort owning a heavy, recurring deadline calendar
- Discretion handling sensitive financial, payroll, and HR information
